Layne & Casey's Louisville Mellwood Wedding

Sweet Layne & Casey are married! What a sweet and enjoyable day – wonderful people, beautiful venue, and perfect weather. We would wish no less for this amazing couple.

We first met Layne & Casey at their engagement shoot and hit it off right away! We shot all around their cute town of Jeffersonville, IN just down the road from the neighborhood they both grew up in. On the big day, we took a photo under the street sign joining their two streets (“Erin Dr” photo). There aren’t many stories out there like Layne & Casey’s! It’s one-of-a-kind. To grow up in the same neighborhood, to know each other’s families, to really notice each other for the first time, to finally tie the knot…I don’t think you could write a better story. Not many people get the chance to be friends first but when it happens, it’s a super special thing. You’ve heard Matt & I say before that friendship plays a huge role in a lasting marriage. 11 years of marriage (and 150+ weddings) in, we believe it more and more. When we see this kind of friendship in a couple, it’s a good day! Layne & Casey are as good of friends as they are crazy about each other. Can’t ask for much more! Their joy and laughter was all we could see through our cameras that day.

Layne & Casey chose Mellwood Art and Entertainment Center in Louisville, KY as their venue. We had only dreamed of shooting there before this day so when it finally came, we were like kids in a candy shop! If you’re looking for a bright, colorful, industrial scene, this is THE venue. We would have been happy to shoot there all day but as you’ve heard me say before – we have the most creative and thoughtful brides! Layne had a plan to include a variety of scenes for her big day. Our first stop was along the water for a breathtaking view! Our next stop was at Kern’s Korner, a family owned bar Casey’s family started. Our final stop was at Mellwood, our new photo playground. 🙂 So much variety in one venue! I have to give a shoutout to Layne & Casey’s bridal party – the way you “cheered on” this couple was incredible. When a bridal party supports a couple the way you did, everyone wins! (Can we take you to all of our weddings?!)

Let’s chat details. Again, we have the most thoughtful and creative brides! Layne’s vision for her wedding will forever be one of our favorites. The bouquets, greenery, tablescapes, colors, simplicity, elegance and creativity of this wedding day are unmatched. And to top it all off – captured in a naturally bright space. When photographers say “it’s all about the light” it’s 100% true. (Mellwood, there are many reasons we love you!) Lastly, we loved Layne’s bridal look… The playful braid in her hair, the pink lips to match her bouquet, and a timeless wedding dress was the perfect blend of elegance and personality!

Layne & Casey enjoyed their entire wedding day together with family and friends, starting with their First Look. (You can spot a momma looking through the window, but there were several others!) Layne & Casey invited people into every moment of their day. A wedding day is a celebration for everyone – the couple, their family and friends. These lovebirds got this! We loved sharing this day with all of their people. From getting ready, to bridal party photos, to the ceremony and throughout the reception, this day just felt like one big family reunion. So much joy! Layne & Casey enjoyed a long reception with their favorite people and danced the night away… I could go on and on about this day!
